K I N D N E S S

[n. the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate]

Where does kindness come from?  It stems from the heart, and it is our nature, or who we are. Without kindness towards ourselves first, we are unlikely to be kind to others.

Author Don Miguel Ruiz said in The Four Agreements to be Impeccable with our Word. “Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.” This starts with our own word to ourselves. How do you speak to your Self on a daily basis? Are you impeccable with what you say to YOU? Being kind to ourselves begins with our own internal dialogue. With awareness, select adoring words to say to thee.

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, let’s create a new tradition:  make a list of all of the things you appreciate about your Self. Be GENEROUS here, and notice when the mind creeps in with criticism. Close your eyes, settle into your heart and ask: What am I really grateful for, about ME? This is not selfish or self-centered to ask these questions, because without you, there is none of it. Speak to yourself as you would a friend; with loving kindness.
